Curriculum Standards Examples:
Below are several examples for you to see how our programs can fit into many of your curriculum needs.
1) At the elementary level we target ecological knowledge with a focus on giving students the awareness of the world that surrounds them. Generally, five areas of study are incorporated throughout the hour with a visual and hands-on experience. The areas we touch upon are:
a. Wildlife Species and Populations
b. Habitats, Ecosystems, and Niches
c. Interdependence – commonalties and interactions
d. Changes and Adaptations – environments and organisms
e. Biodiversity
2) At the middle school level we shift into a social and political knowledge and move the student from simply being aware to a greater understanding. Here our presentation will include the above areas of study, plus four additional areas.
a. Cultural Perspectives – appreciation for wildlife and natural resources
b. Economic, Commercial and Recreational Considerations
c. Historical and Geographic Development
d. Political and Legislative Frameworks – domestic and international
3) Lastly, at the high school level we discuss sustaining wildlife populations by tying in all other aspects of our program and moving students from understanding to taking action themselves. An additional five areas of study can be brought in at this level.
a. Attitudes and Awareness – human values and perspectives
b. Human Impacts – positive and negative
c. Issues and Trends – use of wildlife and wildlife populations
d. Wildlife Management
e. Responsible Action and Service – teaching how students and others can get involved.
